A retired engineer and avid chess player, John Wolfe was vacationing with family when his daughter presented him with a challlenge: how to solve the problem of securing extended play chess matches without resorting to the use of computers. His daughter was an avid chess player but also a loving cat owner, and her cats loved to rearrange her chess set if a game was left unattended for just a few minutes.

Motivated by this challenge, John returned to his Mesa, Arizona home and began work on what would become the foundation for the J.W. Chess brand. John worked for a couple of years to perfect the mechanical engineering, and was granted a patent in 2004. But an avid chess player himself, John knew his work was not done there. And hence arose J.W. Chess.

J.W. Chess is the brainchild of John P. Wolfe, and a division of Wolfe Product Development. Our chess tables solve the age old problem presented by extended play chess matches; and yet this is accomplished without resorting to automated computers and without sacrificing the quality, subtle sophistication, and elegance demanded by our user base. While no two tables are built identically, there are a few things that all of our tables have in common: Modern functionality, Classic simplicity, and Timeless elegance.
